Have you ever felt like you were standing alone—misunderstood, overwhelmed, or just not enough?
If so, you’re not alone. And more importantly—you’re not actually alone.
One of my favorite names of Jesus Christ is Advocate. It’s not one we hear as often as “Savior” or “Redeemer,” but once I started studying it, I couldn’t stop thinking about what it means—and why it matters so much for women like you and me.
What Does "Advocate" Mean?
The word “advocate” comes from the Latin advocatus, meaning “to call to one’s aid.” In ancient times, it described someone who would stand beside you in court and plead your case. An advocate wasn’t just a lawyer. They were a defender. A helper. Someone who stood with you when you couldn’t stand on your own.
According to the Bible Dictionary, Jesus Christ is the Advocate who pleads our cause before the Father. He doesn’t just sit on the sidelines hoping we figure things out. He stands beside us, speaks for us, and pleads for mercy, justice, and understanding on our behalf.
And that’s not just poetic language—it’s scriptural truth.

Scriptures That Testify of Christ as Our Advocate
Let these verses speak to you about Jesus’ role as YOUR Advocate:
“If any man sin and repent, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (1 John 2:1 JST)
“He advocateth the cause of the children of men.” (Moroni 7:28)
“I am your advocate with the Father.” (Doctrine & Covenants 29:5)
“Listen to him who is the advocate with the Father, who is pleading your cause before him.” (Doctrine & Covenants 45:3)
Can you imagine Jesus Christ—our perfect, sinless Savior—pleading your cause before God? Not with a list of your mistakes, but with a reminder of His sacrifice. “Behold the blood of thy Son,” He says in D&C 45:4, “that they may come unto me and have everlasting life.”
He doesn’t plead your perfection—He pleads His propitiation. His perfect love, His perfect life, His perfect atonement—offered freely for you.
What This Means for Your Everyday Life
Let’s bring this home to the busy, overwhelmed, woman who is seeking grace and compassion.
YOU already have someone in your corner.
When the adversary whispers, “You’re not doing enough,” Jesus declares, “I already paid enough.”
When guilt makes you pull away from prayer or scripture study, Jesus says, “Come anyway. I’m still here.”
When shame tells you to hide, Jesus stands and pleads, “Let her in. She believes in Me. She’s mine.”
He is your voice when you feel voiceless. He is your defender when you feel defenseless. He is your Advocate.
What Would Change If You Really Believed This?
Take a breath and ask yourself that question. If I really believed Jesus was advocating for me right now… how would I live differently?
Maybe you’d pray more boldly.
Maybe you’d let go of guilt that’s been clinging for years.
Maybe you’d show up to your life with more grace and courage—knowing Someone is already fighting for you behind the scenes.
Jesus doesn’t just want to forgive you. He wants to stand beside you.
He knows what it feels like to be misunderstood, lonely, tired, and unseen. He knows the pain of grief and the weight of discipleship. And because He knows, He pleads your case—not out of pity, but with perfect empathy.

How This Helps Us Treat Others
When we recognize that Jesus is our Advocate, it changes how we show up for others.
We become advocates for our children—in their struggles and sins.
We plead for our friends in prayer.
We stop pointing fingers and start offering grace, just as Jesus does for us.
As Max Lucado once said, “Do you trust your Advocate—or your Accuser?”
Satan wants to shame you. Jesus wants to defend you.
The enemy condemns. The Advocate redeems.

Let This Name Anchor You
Friends, we are not walking this life alone.
The Savior who stilled storms, raised the dead, and suffered for every sin and sorrow is still working on your behalf—right now. He is speaking your name before the Father. Not someday. Not hypothetically. Now.
He knows your heart. He knows your weakness. And He still says, “She’s worth it. I’ll stand for her.”
So when the pressure rises and the voices get loud—remember His voice is louder.
And He is speaking for you.
Want to go deeper?
- Listen to the hymn “I Stand All Amazed” or the song “My Advocate” by Rend Collective.
- Read D&C 45:3–5 and picture Jesus saying your name. Let yourself feel the power of having an Advocate in heaven.
And next time you feel like you’re not enough?
Whisper this name: Advocate.
And remember—you already have someone who’s pleading your cause.
