“5 Simple Ways to Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ Online” with Scarlet Bushman

Overcoming Fear and Sharing Your Light Online

In today’s world, sharing the gospel doesn’t have to be complicated or intimidating. As we embrace technology and social media, we can all take part in digital missionary work, sharing the light of Jesus Christ in simple and impactful ways. That’s exactly what Scarlet Bushman, creator of the Missionary Mom Checklist, advocates in her conversation during the Seeking Jesus Summit.

In this blog post, I’m going to walk you through some of the key insights from Scarlet’s interview, and show you how you can confidently share your light online, even if you’ve never considered yourself a digital missionary before.

Overcoming the Fear of Sharing Your Faith Online

Many of us feel a certain hesitance when it comes to sharing our faith on platforms like social media. Whether it’s fear of judgment, the idea that we might not know enough, or simply a feeling of inadequacy, these barriers can be overwhelming. Scarlet shares her own experience of feeling this fear but reminds us that fear is something we can overcome through faith.

“God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 1 Timothy 1:7

Scarlet encourages us to shift our mindset. Instead of focusing on what could go wrong, we need to focus on how we can be a vessel of light. She explains that the adversary knows the power of our efforts in sharing the gospel, and that’s why fear often creeps in. But with faith and trust in God’s plan, we can boldly move forward and share our light with the world.

Your Light is Unique and Needed

One of the most powerful takeaways from Scarlet’s message is the idea that our light is unique to us. In today’s world, we often compare ourselves to others, thinking that our light isn’t as bright or as impactful. But Scarlet reminds us that God has given each of us a divine spark that can change lives.

“You don’t have to have a missionary name tag to be a missionary,” Scarlet says. And this is exactly the message we need to hear! We can all be missionaries in our everyday lives by sharing our light; whether that’s through a post on social media, a comment on someone’s post, or a simple message of hope to a friend.

When we embrace our unique gifts and share them with others, we’re playing a part in God’s great plan for gathering Israel. And this doesn’t require perfection, just a willingness to step forward and shine in whatever way feels authentic to you.

Small Steps Lead to Big Impact

The key to effective digital missionary work doesn’t lie in creating grand, over-the-top content, it’s about consistency and small, meaningful actions. Scarlet explains how even the smallest steps, like liking a post, leaving a comment, or sharing an uplifting quote, can create a ripple effect of light.

“By doing these small things, you’re amplifying goodness, and that goodness is seen by others,” she says.

Imagine if every person took just one small action every day to share their light online. Whether it’s liking a post from a fellow member, commenting on a testimony shared by someone else, or posting a scripture that resonates with you, these small actions add up to something much bigger.

Scarlet shares that we can start with what feels comfortable. If you already use social media, you’re halfway there! All it takes is making the decision to share your light, even in small ways.

Practical Tips for Digital Missionaries

If you’re wondering where to start with digital missionary work, Scarlet offers five simple tips to help you begin sharing the gospel online:

  1. Start with Prayer – Ask for guidance on what to share and how to use your talents to bless others.
  2. Use What You Know – Stick with the technology or platform you’re most familiar with. Don’t worry about trying to learn something new.
  3. Like and Comment – Liking and commenting on posts that uplift others is a simple but powerful way to share light.
  4. Share Uplifting Content – Share general conference quotes, church messages, or personal experiences that uplift and testify of Jesus Christ.
  5. Get Personal – When you feel ready, share your testimony or a small faith experience that demonstrates God’s goodness in your life.

By starting with these simple actions, you can begin your journey as a digital missionary and share your light with others.

The Power of Social Media in Gathering Israel

Scarlet also reminds us of the tremendous potential social media holds in gathering Israel. With the world at our fingertips, we have the unique opportunity to reach countless people with our messages of hope and faith. By using social media as a tool to share goodness, we’re helping to spread light to those who might need it most.

As President Nelson said in his talk “Spiritual Treasures,” Latter-day Saints are called to gather Israel in these last days. And social media is one of the most powerful tools we have to do just that.

Trust in God’s Plan

Sharing your faith online can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Scarlet’s message is clear: trust in God, take small steps, and watch how your efforts are magnified. Each step you take to share your light will help others feel God’s love and come closer to Jesus Christ.

Remember, the journey of sharing your faith doesn’t require perfection, just progress. Start where you are, take one small step at a time, and trust that God will guide your efforts.
