"Be Thou My Vision": A Story of Overcoming Illness with Faith
Faith is more than just believing in the good times. It’s about trusting in God’s plan when life feels uncertain, and that’s exactly what Kenzie Roth experienced in her journey from chronic illness to healing. In this conversation from the Seeking Jesus Summit, Kenzie shares her powerful story of how faith in God’s timing and His plan for her life led her through some of her hardest trials, ultimately resulting in personal healing and the creation of art that has impacted countless lives.
Kenzie Roth’s story is one of perseverance, faith, and divine guidance. Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis years ago, Kenzie spent much of her life navigating periods of illness, hospitalization, and uncertainty. She knew the medical side of her condition well, but no matter how much she researched or sought answers, there were still moments when she felt completely lost. At her lowest, far from family and support, Kenzie turned to God.
A Divine Vision Amidst Illness
It was during one of her hardest trials, when Kenzie was facing a life-threatening illness in November 2020, that she had a powerful experience that would change everything. Kenzie was in and out of the hospital for weeks, losing weight, unable to eat, and feeling exhausted both physically and emotionally. As she reached out to God in prayer, expressing her feelings of helplessness, a vision came to her: a vision of the Savior helping her climb a mountain. At the top, she could see a breathtaking view that represented he blessings and healing that awaited her.
This vision became a pivotal moment in Kenzie’s faith journey, reminding her that even in the darkest times, God’s bigger plan was at work. “I didn’t know what to do or how it would end,” Kenzie says, “but I knew I had to trust that God had a plan for me, even if I couldn’t see it right then.”

The Power of Trusting in God’s Plan
As Kenzie continued her battle with illness, this vision became a beacon of hope. God’s timing and plan were unfolding, and although the road ahead seemed uncertain, Kenzie’s trust in Him carried her through. Ultimately, she had to undergo surgery, removing her colon, which she once saw as the worst-case scenario. But instead of devastating her, it became the key to her healing and restoration.
Now, Kenzie is healthier than ever. She has seen the blessings that came from what once seemed like the darkest period of her life. “I never thought I’d be able to get pregnant or have children, but now we have a baby boy,” she shares. This story is a testament to how, even in our worst moments, God has the power to turn pain into purpose and bring blessings that surpass our expectations.
Be Thou My Vision: Turning Trials into Art
One of the most significant aspects of Kenzie’s journey is how her faith and healing led her to create artwork that reflects God’s love. “Be Thou My Vision,” one of Kenzie’s most popular prints, was inspired by her vision of the Savior and represents the peace and healing she experienced through her trials. Art became not only a means of personal healing but a way to share God’s love with others. Kenzie now uses her art as a tool to uplift and inspire, reminding people that God’s love is always present, especially in life’s hardest moments.

Small Steps in Scripture Study & Trusting God’s Timing
One of the most relatable parts of Kenzie’s story is her evolving approach to scripture study. Before her baby was born, Kenzie could set a beautiful stage for her study time, but now, with a new baby in the house, her routine has shifted. “I now read my scriptures while feeding him. It might only be five minutes, but it’s a moment where I can connect with God,”she says.
Kenzie’s story reinforces the idea that even small steps in scripture study matter. “It doesn’t have to be perfect or long; it just needs to be consistent,” she adds. This is a reminder that God honors our efforts, no matter how small, and He can use those moments to strengthen our connection with Him.

The Bigger Picture of Trusting God’s Plan
Kenzie’s journey teaches us that trusting God’s plan can be difficult, especially when we’re in the midst of trials. But when we have faith that His plan is better than anything we can see, we can experience true healing and peace. Kenzie’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the hardest moments, we can trust that God is leading us toward something greater.
If you’re navigating your own trials, whether they’re related to health, family, or any other challenge, Kenzie’s story will inspire you to trust in God’s plan for your life. His timing and His way are always perfect, and the view from the top of the mountain will be worth the climb.
A Message of Hope
Kenzie Roth’s story of faith, healing, and art is a beautiful example of how God transforms our lives when we trust in His plan. If you’re struggling, know that you are not alone. God’s bigger picture is at work, and He is guiding you through your trials. Remember, the view from the top is worth every step of the climb.
Remember, the journey of sharing your faith doesn’t require perfection, just progress. Start where you are, take one small step at a time, and trust that God will guide your efforts.
