Learning Styles 101
Using the eight learning styles in your personal and family scripture study can make learning so much more enjoyable. Gospel and scripture study can be something you and your family can look forward to with anticipation and excitement.
The eight learning styles are:
- Individual Learning Style
- Social Learning Style
- Hands-On Learning Style
- Book Learning Style
- STEM Learning Style
- Music Learning Style
- Nature Learning Style
- Visual Learning Style
Each of these learning styles can be incorporated into you personal and family scripture study so easily. Let’s talk about a few ways we can find joy in our gospel and scripture study by ourselves and with those we love.
There really are a hundred ways–a thousand ways to study the scriptures using our personal learning styles.
Learning Styles and Personal Scripture Study
Using a variety of learning styles in your personal study can be so rewarding. It really is something you can change up and try something new, day-to-day or week-to-week. Because your study time is personal, you do not need to coordinate the time and place with anyone else, making it easy to study and learn however you want.
One day you could read a few verses alone on your patio or in the sunshine (Individual, Book, Nature) and mark phrases that stand out to you (Visual, Book). Another day, you could listen to verses of scripture while going on a walk (Individual, Book, Music, Hands-On, Nature). You could also find a small group of friends to meet and discuss scriptures, General Conference talks, or Come Follow Me together (Social, Book)
Learning Styles and Family Scripture Study
Incorporating learning styles in your family scripture study can be life changing. Teaching scriptures using your children and spouse’s learning styles can make gospel study more engaging and exciting. Usually you will have a lot more conversation and participation when you add a learning style idea to your study time.
One day you could watch and discuss a video about the scripture story (Visual, Social, Book). The next time you could act out the story as the story is read from the scriptures (Hands-On, Book, Social, Visual). Another time everyone could draw a picture about the scriptures being read (Visual, Book).
