Day #36 Facing Our Spiritual Hurricanes by believing in Christ Sean Douglas Oct 21 General Conference Blog

“Facing Our Spiritual Hurricanes by Believing in Christ” by Sean Douglas

40 Day General Conference Challenge DAY 36

TALK: “Facing Our Spiritual Hurricanes by Believing in Christ" by Elder Sean Douglas

JESUS CHRIST:

“May we choose today to ‘doubt not, but be believing.’ ‘The right way is to believe in Christ.’  We are ‘graven … upon the palms of [His] hands.’ He is our Savior and Redeemer, who stands at our very door and knocks.”

-Sean Douglas

SCRIPTURE:

“Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.”

-Mark 9:23-24

INSPIRING QUOTE:

“Doubt is replaced with faith as we build our foundation on Christ. We are then able to see spiritual hurricanes in their proper perspective, and our capacity to overcome them is enlarged…we can all become as little children and choose to put aside our unbelief. It is a simple choice.”

-Sean Douglas

INVITATION TO ACT:

God desires that we believe in Him. We face our spiritual hurricanes best by believing in Christ and keeping His commandments.”

-Sean Douglas

PROMISED BLESSING:

Each of us has weathered and will weather spiritual hurricanes that threaten our peace and try our faith. In today’s world, they seem to be increasing in frequency and intensity. Thankfully, the Lord has provided us a sure way to joyfully overcome them. By living the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are assured that ‘when dark clouds of trouble hang o’er us and threaten our peace to destroy, there is hope smiling brightly before us.’”

-Sean Douglas

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  • How has keeping commandments helped me to be happy?

LEARNING STYLE STUDY IDEA:

NATURE LEARNERS: What gospel analogies come to mind while reading about hurricanes.

MY THOUGHTS:

 Belief is a choice.

Believing in Christ is a choice.

I love that joy comes as Jesus Christ is the focus of our lives.

Focusing on Jesus Christ and my relationship with Him will bring joy.

I loved the sweet reminder that Christ will hold our hands through our difficult times–if we turn to Him and believe in Christ.
