40 Day General Conference Challenge DAY 34
TALK: “Remember Thy Suffering Saints, O Our God" by Elder Anthony D. Perkins
JESUS CHRIST:
“How can you draw upon the power that Jesus Christ offers to succor you and strengthen you in times of suffering? The key is binding yourself to the Savior by keeping the covenants you have made with Him. We make these covenants as we receive priesthood ordinances.”
-Anthony D. Perkins
SCRIPTURE:
“Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.” -Isaiah 48:10
“And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.” -Zechariah 13:9
INSPIRING QUOTE:
“In our day, the Savior invites, “Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” When we keep our sacrament covenant to always remember Him, He promises that His Spirit will be with us. The Spirit gives us strength to endure trials and do what we cannot possibly do on our own.”
-Anthony D. Perkins
INVITATION TO ACT:
How to find hope in difficult circumstances?
“First, suffering does not mean God is displeased with your life.
Second, Heavenly Father is intimately aware of your suffering.
Third, Jesus Christ offers His enabling power to help you have strength to endure your suffering well.
Fourth, choose to find joy each day.”
–Anthony D. Perkins
PROMISED BLESSING:
“Our Heavenly Father remembers His suffering Saints, loves you, and is intimately aware of you. Our Savior knows how you feel. ‘Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.’ (Mosiah 14:4) I know—as a daily recipient—that keeping covenants unlocks the power of Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice to provide strength and even joy to you who suffer.”
-Anthony D. Perkins
REFLECTION QUESTION:
- When was the last time I chose to find joy during a hard time?
LEARNING STYLE STUDY IDEA:
VISUAL LEARNERS: Find a favorite picture of the Savior to hang somewhere you will see it often that helps you feel love and hope in difficult times.
MY THOUGHTS:
Jesus Christ can breath hope into any situation we find ourselves. We are allowed to pass through trials and difficulties so we can come to know the Lord and trust in Him and to become more like Him. I have felt the love of God and of Jesus Christ and been “encircled in [Their] love” many times in my life. Trials turn me to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and help me find joy in the process.
