“Teaching Self-Reliance to Children and Youth” by Hugo E. Martinez

40 Day General Conference Challenge DAY 30

TALK: “Teaching Self-Reliance to Children and Youth” by Hugo E. Martinez

NAME OF CHRIST: Jesus Christ

“..adults can best be on the path toward self-reliance when they have been taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and have practiced its doctrine and principles since childhood and as youth in the home.”

-Hugo E. Martinez

QUOTE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST:

Striving to be self-reliant is part of our work along the covenant path that leads us back to Heavenly Father and to His Son, Jesus Christ. It will strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ and joyfully bind us to Him through the covenants and ordinances of salvation and exaltation.”

Hugo E. Martinez

SCRIPTURE:

Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”

-Luke 2:52

INSPIRING QUOTE:

“We become self-reliant throughout our lives by growing in spiritual strength, improving our physical and emotional health, pursuing our education and employment, and being temporally prepared…it is a lifelong process of learning, growth, and work. It never ends; it is a continuous, daily process.”

-Hugo E. Martinez

INVITATION TO ACT:

Let us follow our Savior, Jesus Christ, and His gospel by becoming self-reliant throughout our lives and teaching this to our children and youth. We can do this best by being good examples of service to others, living and teaching the doctrine and principles of self-reliance, and obeying the commandment to build self-reliance as part of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Hugo E. Martinez

PROMISED BLESSING:

This is the Church of Jesus Christ. His gospel blesses families here on earth and throughout the eternities. It guides us in our lives as we strive to become eternal families.”

Hugo E. Martinez

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  • How am I teaching self-reliance to my children?

LEARNING STYLE STUDY IDEA:

INDIVIDUAL LEARNERS: Using the “Children and Youth” program as my guide, set at least one goal in at least one area (Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, or Physical) to work on in the next few weeks.

MY THOUGHTS:

I love the “Children and Youth Program”. When it first came out, I kept thinking, “If this is good for my children, then it is good for me.” I love working on new things, setting new goals, and learning. I recently finished the “Emotional Resilience” class offered through our stake. I was taught and reminded of great gospel truths that can be used in all aspects of my life.
