The Peace of Christ Abolishes Enmity Dale G Renlund

“The Peace of Christ Abolishes Enmity” by Dale G. Renlund

40 Day General Conference Challenge DAY 28

TALK: “The Peace of Christ Abolishes Enmity" by Elder Dale G. Renlund

JESUS CHRIST:

“Contention weakens our collective witness to the world of Jesus Christ and the redemption that comes through His ‘merits, … mercy, and grace.’ The Savior said: ‘A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another. … By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.’” (John 13:34, 35)

-Dale G. Renlund

SCRIPTURE:

“Wherefore, how great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who layeth down his life according to the flesh, and taketh it again by the power of the Spirit, that he may bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.”

-2 Nephi 2:8

INSPIRING QUOTE:

“When love of Christ envelops our lives, we approach disagreements with meekness, patience, and kindness. We worry less about our own sensitivities and more about our neighbor’s. We ‘seek to moderate and unify.’ We do not engage in ‘doubtful disputations,’  judge those with whom we disagree, or try to cause them to stumble. Instead, we assume that those with whom we disagree are doing the best they can with the life experiences they have.”

-Dale G. Renlund

INVITATION TO ACT:

“My invitation is to be valiant in putting our love of God and discipleship of the Savior above all other considerations. Let us uphold the covenant inherent in our discipleship—the covenant to be one.”

-Dale G. Renlund

PROMISED BLESSING:

“Our witness of Jesus Christ to the world will be strengthened, and we will remain spiritually healthy. I testify that as we ‘shun contention’ and become ‘like-minded with the Lord in love and united with Him in faith,’ His peace will be ours.”

-Dale G. Renlund

REFLECTION QUESTION:

  • What can I do to foster more unity?

LEARNING STYLE STUDY IDEA:

HANDS-ON LEARNER: Listen to this talk while exercising and getting your heart pumping. Think about how the Lord can change my heart.

MY THOUGHTS:

This was a good one!! I studied this talk several times the past few months and learned so much about how to make Christ and my discipleship above everything else—this is the most important thing I can include in all my relationships. This is a choice I make each and every day—to seek unity with everyone around me. I loved that I was able to reflect on my spiritual heart health and be reminded that all weakness can be treated.
