SOCIAL LEARNER (Interpersonal)
The SOCIAL (INTERPERSONAL) LEARNING STYLE or “people smart”– is the learning style that thrives on being with and learning with others. Social learners enjoy talking with others, learning from others, and working together with others. They love teaching lessons and sharing their thoughts and feelings with others. They love attending classes especially when they can interact with the teacher and classmates.
Personal Study Ideas
Here are several easy ways to study “Come, Follow Me- For Individuals and Families” in your personal study as a SOCIAL (INTERPERSONAL) learner.
- find a friend or two to study with–Gather each week with a small group of family members or friends to discuss and study each lesson. You could read the scriptures before you meet or while you are together.
- attend an institute class–Find an institute class in your area that is studying the Old Testament this year and invited a friend or two to attend with you. There are several in my area (Northern Utah) and two of them have Zoom Links (so anyone around the world can attend). If you are interested, comment below and I can send you the information.
- read scriptures with someone–Each week, you can read the assigned chapters with a child or spouse. Discuss what you are reading and learning as you go. Discuss ways you can apply the teachings to your own lives.
- listen to a CFM podcast & discuss–Learn from others who share insights and applications through podcasts or youtube videos. If you have a friends or family who enjoy the same podcast, call one another and discuss what you learned. Below I share several of my favorite podcasts and youtube videos that have weekly episodes for each “Come, Follow Me” lesson. If you have a favorite I haven’t included, leave me a comment so I can check it out–I’m always on the hunt for a great podcast.
- share an insight on social media–Take a minute each week to share an insight or something you really loved from you CFM reading on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Find ways to testify of Jesus Christ on social media. Leave uplifting comments on other accounts who share your same values.
- plan a lesson to teach to others–Plan a CFM lesson to teach to your family or your class at church. Think of ways to include everyone in the discussion by assigning them specific parts or creating small groups to share thoughts.
Family Study Ideas
Here are several easy ways to study “Come, Follow Me- For Individuals and Families” in your family study as SOCIAL (INTERPERSONAL) learners.
- discuss questions as a family- There are a lot of great questions in the CFM manual. Use the questions to have a discussion where everyone is free to share their personal thoughts, feelings, and questions they may have.
- take turns weekly teaching CFM– Create a rotating schedule of who will lead the CFM lesson and discussion with your family each week. Give each member an opportunity to plan the lesson and teach the lesson.
- work in small groups– Divide your family into small groups (2-3 people in each group) to work on a project together or to discuss a specific question. Gather back together as a whole family to share what you learned and discussed in your smaller groups.
- everyone read and explain one verse– Have each family member read a different verse out loud and then summarize the verse in their own words. Each family member could also share personal application to the verse they were assigned.
- find personal application– While reading a section of scripture, encourage your family to find and share how this relates to their life today. You could also share personal experiences that relate to the topic.
- display questions at dinner– Write down questions to discuss as a family while eating breakfast or dinner. There are several commercially created flipcharts with questions or insights, or you could create your own. Encourage CFM discussions during mealtimes.
